As I design, I often wrestle with the philosophical conflict between my training - how architecture should work, and my experience - the desire to respond to actual events or circumstances. When you get a specific property, where the path of the sun is completely opposite several of the views, or placement of the rooms, that's when the conflict comes in. The inherent challenges of conquering these conflicts are at the core of the creative energy that drives my work.

An organic approach to functional style sometimes creates a further conflict with conventional wisdom. Each of the projects presented on these portfolio pages has had their own unique challenges and conflicts. The results are demonstrable and client satisfaction are the keys to continually driving Tobin Architects to strive for excellence in The Art of Architecture.
